Does Obba upload my SMS messages?

No. Obba processes SMS locally on your phone to detect bank transaction messages. SMS content is never uploaded to any server. The app does not have internet permission.

Why does Obba need SMS access?

Obba reads SMS from known bank sender IDs to identify transaction messages and present spending summaries. It does not read personal messages, and automatically excludes OTP and password messages.

Do you store my financial data on your servers?

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Obba mobile application (“App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Obba is a free, offline, privacy-first expense tracking application that:

Reads bank SMS messages on Android devices to automatically track financial transactions
Categorizes spending into predefined categories
Provides spending analytics and visualizations
Operates entirely offline with no internet connectivity — all SMS processing happens locally on your device

3. User Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms. The App is designed for users with active bank accounts in the MENA region.

4. SMS Permission

The App requests permission to read SMS messages on your Android device. This permission is:

Required for core functionality: SMS access is needed to detect and parse bank transaction messages for automatic expense tracking.
Limited: Only messages from known bank sender IDs are processed. Personal messages are never accessed.
Revocable: You can revoke SMS permission at any time through Android Settings.

5. Data Ownership

You retain full ownership of all data stored within the App. Since all data is stored locally on your device and we have no access to it:

You are solely responsible for the security of your device
You are solely responsible for backing up your data if desired
We cannot recover data if you delete it or lose your device

6. Accuracy of Information

Obba parses bank SMS using pattern recognition. While we strive for accuracy:

We do not guarantee 100% accuracy of parsed transaction data
Transaction categorization is automatic and may not always be correct
The App is not a replacement for official bank statements or records
You should verify important financial information with your bank

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
Attempt to interfere with the App's proper functioning
Distribute, sublicense, or make the App available to third parties

8. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, graphics, logos, and content, is the intellectual property of Obba and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the App will be error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the App will meet your specific requirements.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OBBA SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.

11. Free Service

Obba is provided free of charge. There are no premium tiers, in-app purchases, subscription fees, or advertising. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in the future, but existing free features will remain free.

12. Updates and Changes

We may update the App from time to time. Updates may include bug fixes, new features, or changes to existing features. We are not obligated to provide any updates or continued support.

13. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. All locally stored data will be permanently deleted upon uninstallation.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

15. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
